What's in a Prague street name

Every street in Prague, one by one.

Prague 4, day 303: Pod Lysinami

Pod Lysinami was built in 1991.

I did warn that there would be a bit of repetition in the next few days, so feel free to go and find out why this area was named Lysiny by clicking on https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2026/01/28/prague-4-day-293-na-lysinach/ (which we already had to recycle on day 294).

Pod Lysinami had the dubious opportunity to be named in a few news articles in 2020 and 2021, when it turned out that a red Honda Civic had been parked there for over a decade, but its removal was being delayed by an argument over how the removal costs would be reimbursed: https://www.impuls.cz/regiony/praha/vrak-hodkovicky-auto-parkoviste-sprava-sluzeb.A210903_192402_imp-praha_kov/.

P.S. Anyone know why WordPress is so reluctant to upload the map pics? They are not huge and it’s quite annoying.

Hi Ed, AI tells me one of the issues associated with difficulty in uploading maps is that they often use specialised software which sometimes have filenames with special characters (e.g., map_v.2.0@final!.jpg). WordPress’s uploader can be sensitive to these.
You can fix this by renaming the file to something simple, using only letters, numbers, and hyphens (e.g., regional-map-2026.jpg).
BTW, is there a search facility on your blog so that readers can find specific streets? Thanks, Philip

    1. Hi Philip, thanks for that! Strangely, it seems that uploading them doesn’t work on my (otherwise pretty strong) wifi, and I have to tether my laptop to my phone for them to work (though only with 90% success).

Thanks for the pointer on the search facility, too – I need to take the plunge and revamp the website so it’s significantly more user-friendly (the ‘let’s get some content on there first’ phase probably lapsed some time ago…).

      1. Hi Ed, hmmm well, AI did give me two other possible causes (with a little more complicated explanations and fixes) so you could try asking Gemini the same question and see if it can help you. Incidentally, I live at U Půjčovny 2, Prague 1 and was interested to learn from the blog that Emil a Dana Zatopekovi lived at No 8. What are your thoughts about approaching Prague 1 to fund a small commemorative plaque for the main entrance during this (Winter) Olympic season? Thanks again for your work on this blog, Philip

      2. Hi Philip, sorry for the late reply (the delay may be another sign that I do indeed need to make this website more user-friendly)!

The idea of asking about a plaque fascinates me – I have never done anything like that before, but what a wonderful suggestion which I think I will do, and give you full credit for!

Hi Ed, no need to apologise as I wonder how you find the time to keep up with the research and writing for this blog. I was planning to organise the plaque anyway and so my question to you was whether you might know who to approach about making this happen. I think I already have enough people who would fund it (if necessary) but it’s the ‘permissions and paperwork’ that I need help with. I hope that makes sense! Best wishes, Philip (joyful602013f842)
