What's in a Prague street name

Every street in Prague, one by one.

We don’t know exactly when Na Dvorcích was built, but we do know that it existed by 1937.

Apparently, the area around here was once known as Dvorce. We’ve already seen one of those (https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2025/07/25/prague-4-day-155-dvorecke-namesti/).

While it’s in Prague 4, it’s not that near, and would have been even more ‘not that near’ before all our modern and modern-ish forms of transport came into being.

‘Dvůr’ can be translated as, among other things, ‘court’ or ‘farmstead’, and, given the village-but-not atmosphere of this part of Krč even now, I’m going to see this as the more likely reason for the name.
