What's in a Prague street name

Every street in Prague, one by one.

Magistrů was created from the combination of two other roads in 1947.

One of those streets was called Krokova, on which see https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2024/08/22/prague-2-day-90-krokova/.

And the second one was called Nerudova, on which… yes, you got it: https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2024/09/08/prague-1-day-37-nerudova/.

A ‘magistr’ is someone who holds a Master’s Degree (‘Mgr.’ is something you will see on many Czech email signatures).

You could be a ‘magistr přírodních věd’ (Master of Sciences, MSc) or a ‘magistr společenských věd’ (Master of Arts, MA).

Making this street another reminder of Michle’s history as property of Charles University (https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2026/10/11/prague-4-day-469-michelska/). Something tells me I’ll be bringing this up a lot more.
