U plynárny was created in 1967.

Originally, this was part of Nuselská, and, for the several names present-day Nuselská once had, see https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2025/02/25/prague-4-day-45-nuselska/.
In 1967, the part which, up to that point, was called Leninova became U plynárny.
Between 1925 and 1927, a gasworks (plynárna), designed by the architect Josef Kalous, was built here to replace older facilities in Žižkov and Holešovice.

Plynárna Michle suffered a major fire in 1961, and, while locals had to be evacuated (a task made easier by the fact that it’s rather industrial, not residential, round here), nobody was injured: https://www.stream.cz/badatele/nova-fakta-o-nejvetsim-pozaru-plynarny-o-nestesti-se-vedelo-dopredu-64546817.
The gasworks functioned until 1975, when they were superseded by a new gasworks in Horní Měcholupy (Prague 15). The building remains, and is now used by Pražská plynárenská, one of the country’s energy companies.
