What's in a Prague street name

I could talk about myself for ages, or I could point out that https://english.radio.cz/ed-ley-englishman-recording-stories-pragues-streets-one-one-8806941 is over two years old but still largely stands (other than the Twitter links).

Prague 4, day 410: Na staré cestě

Na staré cestě was built in 1930.

Until 1935, it was called Trenčínská, after Trenčín, Slovakia’s eighth-largest city (population 55,000), located near Czech border – and, along with Oulu, Finland, European Capital of Culture in 2026.

We’re not too far from Nová cesta (https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2026/06/10/prague-4-day-399-nova-cesta/), which means ‘New Road’.

And the existence of a new road indicates the probably existence of an old one – and it must have been in the vicinity of this street, which is named after it.

This might have been a long-ish old road if it’s the same one that https://whatsinapraguestreetname.com/2025/10/19/prague-4-day-203-stara-cesta/, in Braník, is named after.
